Hello all;
Appreciate any advice from the group.
I have a 69 S4 w. Stromberg CD 175s with fixed needles. B1Y
I'm considering converting to adjustable needles to better tune the
engine. Can I use the same carbs and replace the pistons for
adjustable needles or do I need to source complete carbs?
TIA

If your carbs have fixed needles you should be able to adjust the jet
height from underneath the carb. Then again if you are in the USA this
might not be so??? How do you adjust the mixture at the moment?

You could buy new pistons and needles to allow for adjustment. Or you
could go for adjustable jets. The jets adjust over a greater range
giving you more options for tuning. My S4 has adjustable jets. For
adjustable jet you will need new jet assys. You can get all the bits
from www.burlen.co.uk If the carbs have not been rebuilt in a while get
a couple of rebuild kits while you are at.

I put the adjustable needle pistons from another pair of carbs into my
Strombergs and it works fine. Well I did change the needles from the ones
that came with the carbs but otherwise nothing else was needed. Unlike Sus
where the carb bore to piston clearance is critical the strombergs with the
diaphragm can be changed easily.
