rear bearing spacer

I'm getting ready to re-assemble my rear suspension/hubs, so I was
reviewing the service manual and parts list. In the parts list I
noticed that there is a bearing spacer that goes between the circlip
and bearing on the inboard side. My car did not have a spacer on
either side of the car. Does anyone know if all cars had this
spacer? If it is necessary, is this something that can be easily
ordered?

Well, after checking the early parts manual for the S1 and S2 I noticed that
the bearing spacer is not listed. So my guess is that my car may not have
ever had this spacer.

With that said, is there a reason to add this spacer, or should I just go
without?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick
S1's and S2's did not have the dust shield/spacer. If you try and
put it in, the snap ring will not go in the groove as it was not
designed for it. The early castings are issue 16, some have that cast
into the bearing housing some dont. later ones are Issue 18 and these
are the one that use the dust shields.
