Other Lotus owners

I find that owners that do not know an Elan is a Lotus are usually Elise
drivers. Although it is only a few.
I have noticed that Esprit owners all seem to know my car is a Lotus and
flash their lights and sound the horn.
Another curious thing is that a lot of very young children seem to spot the
Elan and know it is a Lotus yet the car is probably older than their
parents.
Funny world this Lotus ownership.

Absolutely Cliveyboy. It is with the latest generation of cars that the link
is starting to fade.

Post Lotus dropping out of F1? (apologies to our USA readers for using such
bad language at this time of day....)

Maybe an Elan is featured in one of those funny little 'box' game things -
(Playing Station or Z box or something aren't they? Life substitutes
whatever they are called) and hence they are recognised by the youff of
today??

My, sounding pretty decrepit aren't I. And pop music is all just noise,
can't hear the words, no melody, at least you could sing along with 'The
Pistols' and you never saw Joe Strummer doing a dodgy duet with Sir Elton
John etc etc etc.

PS Just when did you see an Esprit with both light AND horn working? I think
you will find they just flashed their lights at you and the horn sort of
went off as well.

I've found the same with the +2 and also with my MGB. Owners of older
cars wave but many owners of Elise's or MGF/TF's don't.
In the case of the MG I think it's down to the gap in production
between the MGB and MGF, with the name only being used on a few
dreadfull Rover products. With Lotus it might be something similar,
few cars were produced during the eighties and early nineties.

Actually, my son plays a video game called Gran Turismo 4. The 60s Elan is
one of the cars you can race, but you have to win many races before it is
unlocked. My son wasn't even interested in the Elan until he saw it on the
game. Now he tells all of his friends that his dad has one.

Now this is only an opinion but .........

Everything post '74/5 ish is Kak anyway!

and all this later stuff isn't really Lotus, might be GM or Proton or
Skoda or whoever the h*ll owns the Lotus name today.

The spirit of Lotus and Colin Chapman and the great history of Lotus
cars and Team Lotus resides in the classic models.

Lotus is gone and the genius and spirit and sadly the Great Britain in
which it could blossom is gone and we will never see it's like again

Should you really care if the Vauxhall Elise driver flashes or not?

Maybe it just my nostalgia showing, but I agree with John. The Lotus with
the sans-serif font logos are the essence of Lotus and Chapman's philosophy.

I'll agree with the foregoing statements and tend to agree most of the
post '74 machines miss the mark although I have a soft spot for the
series 1 Esprit and think the front engine 907 powered derivatives
would be a lot more fun with a Buick/Rover V8.

I believe the Elise holds true to Chapman's philosophy, not that I
could afford one much less even fit in one...at least I fit in a +2 and
that makes me happy.

As for the loss of the genius and spirit of Great Britian I feel
Americans are headed down the same road.

Yeah, that could be it! Today's changed regulatory, legislative and
litigious environment means the only exciting product ideas and solutions
for the US marques are 40 years old. Extending this hypothesis into other
industries might even explain why we have "new" movies today like the
Honeymooners, The Longest Yard, Bewitched, Herbie, War of the Worlds, and
Dukes of Hazard.
