Sorry......it's me again.

Our car is a March 1968 S3 SS DHC in bright yellow. On the
lotuselan.net web site, the Lotus Yellow page is blank. Where can I
find out what yellow it was?

Just finished repainting 72 Elan + 2, cobalt blue which was the original
colour.
All the Lotus paint code numbers were of no use to the local PPG paint
store. No longer tracked.

I took my trunk lid and they used they inside to analyze and match the
original colour.
They did a really good job on the paint match.

Your '68 Elan is almost certainly L07 Lotus Yellow the same as my '69 S4

Sorry I haven't got a modern code to hand. I painted mine with PPG
Deltron 2K. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting your local
paint factor to mix it in celly for you.

Company in Ohio (no affiliation) offers "English nitrocellulose
lacquer". They have told me they have Lotus color mix formula information

It is expensive stuff, thankfully Elans are small.

The other yellow was called Bahama Yellow if this is of any help. I have cut the roof off a late 1969 +2
to convetiblise ot and on the inner face was crayoned "last Bahama Yellow"
This may be your yellow.

Also named "Norfolk Mustard", after the mother of all mustards, Colemans,
which is also assembled in Norwich!

That's interesting. When I replaced the head liner on my '71 Sprint
coupe, I too found a crayon scrawl on the underside of my
roof... "RED." It must have been a fairly common practice.

P.S. I also just got my Sprint repainted in Gold Leaf colors, a one-
stage polyurethane (no clear coat)recommended by my body shop (who
specializes in fiberglas Corvettes) and he told me that he was able
to get modern reproductions of original Lotus colors from DuPont here
in the U.S.
After shelling out some significant dollars for that paint job, I
wanted to put the right "wax" on it from the get-go. Checking
out "waxes" on the Internet, I stumbled across Zaino Brothers
products, and having since acquired them by mail order (can't by in
stores) I must say it's FANTASTIC! (I have no monetary interest in
this. I even Googled the words "Zaino" and "bad", and could find no
complaints from any users of this product.)

I have a 1969 Elan S4 that was painted by the previous owner about 15
years ago. You can see it in Photos: Steve's 1969 Elan. If you like
the color, read further:

I have the original paint can label which says Deltron Acrylic
Urethane, color number DAU 81406, Ryder Truck Yellow. There are also
the following numbers:

DMD 648 WEAK BLACK 162.7
DMD 642 YELLOW OXIDE 424.3
DMD 643 LIGHT CHROME YELLOW 2043.8
DMD 645 STRONG WHITE 4589.7

The body shop was able to perfectly match the paint using this info.
This past June 5th I took my class at the Greenwich Concours and one
press type told me it was the best finish he had ever seen on an
Elan. He could not believe it was 15 years old.

I can send you a powerpoint file with scans of the label if you are
interested.
