Good garages in Berkshire (or nearby)?

PostPost by: zarelan » Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:15 pm

This message is mainly for those of you in the UK....

I'm new to this forum. After many months of looking and researching I
made up my mind and finally bought an Elan Sprint 72 DCH this weekend.
The car is in excellent mechanical condition, and has all the usual
improvements to make it safer and more reliable.

I'm sure there will be lots of questions in the coming weeks. The
first one is about garages and servicing. The car has seen very little
use in the last 15 months. Before I can drive it with confidence it
needs a good health check by someone who knows a bit about Elans.

None of the garages that advertise as Lotus specialists are located
within reasonable distance of where I live. If any of you know of a
good garage or a friendly mechanic in Berkshire, particularly in the
Reading / Bracknell area, please let me know.

Surely Bell & Colvill are close, Surrey anyway? They've been Lotus
dealers since the 1960s. And I think that Eamon Swords is in that area
too. Are SGT still going? Definitely Berkshire, Taplow.

The top-notch Elan man is Peter Day, in Cambridgeshire (in fact 5
minutes walk from here (yes, this is a plug)), or Paul Matty in
Worcestershire, or Pat Thomas in Lincolnshire. Sue Miller in Suffolk
is worth talking to, but I don't know how much service work she does
now. For racing stuff Tony Thompson (Bedfordshire/Northamptonshire) is
the place.

Hmmm, if you want "local" experts for your Elan it looks as if you need
to move to East Anglia ;-)
