I have had the Fuel Safe cell in my FHC for about 10 years now. Very
nice product. It has allowed me to run AN fittings and hose from tank
to carbs.

I wasn't totally thrilled with the way the mounting straps attached to
the body, I fabricated some larger reinforcements for the fiberglass.

I also had some issues regarding the alinement of the filler neck with
the body opening. Here again, I fabricated my own filler pipe to suit,
and added a monza type cap for effect.

What does a fuel cell really buy you with an Elan? As it is behind
the chassis, a rear end collision would crush even a fuel cell. I
would expect that the bladder would simply rupture from being
compressed, still dumping fuel. The foam filled ones I would expect
to simply crush, still dumping fuel. All I can really see is that in
a minor rear end collision the bladder type might maintain its
integrity well enough to prevent a fuel spill. The foam filled ones
little help.

What a cell buys you is time. In the event of a crash the foam should
prevent the tank from exploding in contact. The Bladder will deform and
hopefully not rupture. That is the intent.

It is the explosion and the spreading of flaming gas that you want to
prevent. The cell should do that.
