brake shudder

I have an Elan +2 which has the brake servo in place. When braking
during high speed I notice considerable vibration from the front of
the car. I have new rotors and plenty of meat left on the pads. The
shudder existed on the old rotors and the new ones, so it's not
warped
rotors.Could it be the servo? Has anyone else traced vibration to the
servo?

thanks,
Steve

That's a toughie, you've ruled out the most obvious cause with the new
rotors.

Other possibilities:
- wheel alignment, incorrect toe adjustment can make a car do funny things
under braking and would be worse at speed.
- dud tyre, twisted belts in a tyre can make it vibrate but it would usually
do it just driving along, the forces on a tyre are different when it is
braking so it is possible.
- could be the driveline (UJ's or donuts) if it only does it when using
engine braking. Trying it with the clutch in would eliminate this. Give
yourself plenty of room though, the brakes are much less effective without
engine braking.

Good luck

I would start looking at the suspension. Worn bushes, steering rack,
trackrod ends etc....

My baby Elan had a similar problem and it was all down to a track rod
end that was worn out.

I know this may sounds strange, but I would have a good look at the runout of the rear discs. If they are out of true, they can "pump" the hydraulic system by pushing the cylinders in and out. This can be transmitted to the front calipers giving the feeling of Judder..
Cheers

Thanks to all for the great input. Lots of stuff to check. I've
looked at rear rotors and they seem true, but I didn't gauge them.
I'll take a better look at front suspension. My guess at servo
problem is probably not correct as no one has come back with that.
