Did all LHD Elans also come with brake and clutch cylinder holes on the
right hand side? Both S3's I am familiar with have a set of holes on the
right covered with a stapled on piece of panelboard. Is there any reason
not to remove the panelboard and fill the holes with GRP?

Hi Marc
I beleave that the S1's through S3's were made to be either RHD or
LHD, My 70 S4 Coupe Was built as a RHD and I had to drill the holes
when I converted it to LHD. Other than some one else converting it
later, I don't think that the holes serve any other purpose.

My S4 had hole on both right and left side footwells. Like you, I thought
the flimsy board unseemly. I had the holes in un-used side fiberglassed
over when my car's body was undergoing major repairs. The body shop person
told me it was a real chore getting into the footwell from the inside,
something needed to do the job properly.

Thanks Rich!
I've decided - the holes (the RH ones) and fiberboard are going. It is not
original and it probably adds a little weight but since the fiberboard
didn't seal well it should reduce engine fumes in passenger compartment,
stay dryer and be a little quieter.
Since I have the dash and all the interior out of the car, it seems like it
will not be too much of a chore. Just feathered out the floor side with an
angle grinder, washed it with acetone and taped waxed alum foil to the
engine side of the firewall, covering the holes for a smooth exterior. I
am going to 'glass them up tomorrow.
Regards,
