I have just taken my S4 apart & there is no flange on the stub axle. The
axle is inserted from the outboard side until the taper bottoms out. The nut
on the inboard end will pull the taper home. To remove it I had to use a 2
leg puller & heat the upright with a propane torch, then a gentle tap with a
hammer (protect the threaded end with something soft eg. brass) & the shaft
popped out.

Subject: Front stub axle question - Elan S2

Folks,

Never had a set apart before. If you were looking from the backside
(inboard) of the upright, how far does the stub axle push through to the
outboard "flange"? In other words, does the flange on the stub axle come
right up to the level of the machined flange of the upright, or does it
remain "indented" somewhat?

Thanks in advance,
Bill Tebbutt
