Do the paint codes from muti-national companies not work in the
states????......
We give the paint shop the number and they find the cross reference for
it....I doubt anyone is using the same paint that lotus were using in
the 60's and 70's due to the fact that by todays standard they are
dangerous to both us and the enviroment........
If you want a certain paint colour then pick a car with that colour
paint on it and then go and ask the owner what colour it is...then you
can go to the main dealer and ask for a big tub of the stuff......If you
want cirrus white give the number to your shop and ask them to cross
match......if you want Ford Glacier White then ring ford up.....where's
the problem....

Thanks for agreeing with me Martin......
I don't understand the difficulty.....surely the paint shops in the US
have cross reference books too and therefore you should have no
problem......

The paint codes listed do not correspond to any codes the major paint
suppliers.PPG.etc..that are here in Buffalo NY.

That is the problem.they cant match.find or cross reference these numbers.

Now I don't know why.and honestly am not concerned with how and why.

I was only asking if someone has done this before and if they have come up
with a close match for the gold in the decals and painted bumpers used on
the car.

I thought that asking this list was a lot easier than finding a car.chasing
it down..and then hoping it the correct color.

I am sorry that I seem to be upsetting you.I don't understand why.. .I
thought this is what the internet and this list is for..

People ask questions all day long on all of these lists.I answer a lot of
them. I just answered a guy on the Sevens list that wanted to know the
paint code for Caterham green. I gave it to him.now I know it had been said
before.but what did it hurt to send it again.quick answer to a quick
question..probably saved him a lot of time..and cost me very little time to
do so.much less time than writing this.

I enjoy helping people.don't see what the problem is here..

Regards

Tony V

Perhaps the dealers.parts places etc in the UK are much more nostalgic about
old cars..

Here in the states..if it is older than 10 years .forget getting anybody to
talk to you about it..much less still have records.that goes for Ford,
GM.etc etc.

30 years..they laugh at you...

As to looking things up.if it is not on the computer.it does not exist..

Tony,

One problem I've had w/ PPG and other US suppliers (not just paint) is thattheir books and computers don't even list Lotus. If you make the mistake of asking for anything Lotus at most any auto business in the US, the next question you'll get is "Who makes that model?" I remember being frustrated by one book, may have been PPG paint codes that had listing for Lamborghini, but not Lotus!

When I researched LOT1 color code back in the early 80s, I had an older fellow at my PPG store who was quite helpful and who had saved some of their older paint code books, so we were able to follow the progression of paint codes that replaced the older ones. Even 20 years ago, this was a very tedious task in the good ole USA. Unfortunately, Jack retired from the business and his constant companion, Cancer Stick, got him shortly. And his replacement threw away all that worthless old junk Jack had kept around all those years. Funny how life and business has changed over our adult lives, not always for the better.
