Lower Rad hose

PostPost by: wgrainge » Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:04 pm

Recently got a new lower rad hose from Dave Bean. Not even close to
fitting my car. I have the original wide radiator. Not sure how many
different rads were used, but no doubt there's variation. Any chance
someone might know a common everyday cross-reference or part number
that I could use at the local autoparts store?

Here's a photo of my rad/engine.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Will,

I had the same problem. I was replacing the hoses on my wife's 1972 Mercury Capri 2.0L. The lower hose has the right diameter and several useable bends. I cut a section to replace my lower hose and then gave the remainder to another elan owner and he did the same.

Hi Will
I have been at the (UK) Donington Lotus show all weekend selling Silicon
race hoses for the Elan/Plus 2. (Hello to all those I talked to). The
original rubber hoses can be a pain to fit and a lot of owners cut and trim
them shorter. Even the Silicon hoses I have on my Sprint take some fitting
and they stretch more on diameter and are more flexible.
I think the problem is that the bottom hose is quoted for the Elan, Plus 2
and Cortina and I also believe originally there were two variations of the
bottom hose as they differed very slightly but now days there is only one
available that fits all. (My Silicon hoses are a direct swop for the
original rubber) You might have seen some pictures of them already at:-

If you would like I can send you one of the bottom hoses and you can try it.
If it fits we can talk money otherwise send it back and its cost you
nothing.
Email me off line ***@***.*** your address and I will send
one over.
Clive

Clive,

I am looking for an air filter mount for a setup like yours. Where did you get your trick mount?

Dan,

The '72 2-liter Mercury Capri hose sounds interesting. Are you referring to
a US model Capri? I think Capri may mean something else in other parts of
the world. If US Capri, where did you source the hose? Some place like NAPA?
