Oil catch tank plumbing

PostPost by: steveww » Mon Mar 07, 2005 5:39 pm

I have been looking at catch tanks and it looks like most of them have 2
pipe connections. I was just going to run one pipe from the head to the
tank. Erm what about the other pipe connection on the tank?

The other option is to just use any old bottle and drop the pipe in to
that. However with out some sort of filter on the top of the bottle I am
worried that oil mist will escape and spray all over the engine bay.

What is everyone else using? Pictures, diagrams etc appreciated.

My S2 has a breather from the centre front of the cam cover and one
on the block where the rubber conical connector from the head to
block should be. Burtons in the UK sell a suitable push fit elbow.
The head has an appropriate bung in the unused hole.

No pics, sorry.

Steve

Have a look in photos > rohans elan. You will see some pictures of my
ctach tank setup. Just a single hose from the front of the cam cover
to tank located infront of the radiator. Just a few holes in the
catch tank to vent it, no problems with oil mist in the engine bay it
all get knocked out in the hose and catch tank.
