Correct under bonnet and chassis detail colors?

Does anyone have a list (or know where a list might be had) for the
original paint colors of the engine compartment items, drive train and
chassis components?
I was just stripping an air filter housing. I thought these were
originally black, but the original paint color on this one is silver. What
is the correct original color?

Gidday Marc,
I think you will find with the air filter body it is an 'AC' item, they were painted a silver grey colour originally.
See ya, Les

Thanks Les, that (silver) is what I am finding. Is silver the colour that
Lotus installed or were they repainted black by the Lotus works?

They were repainted black to give a black background to the registration
number on the grill

Gidday Marc, AC is/was a UK Company. The paint was a silver but slightly mottled or flecked. Cannot see that Chapman would waste money re-painting theitem.

Sorry to disagree guys, but EVERYTHING forward of the radiator was painted
black to give a legal black background to the registration numbers on the
grill

I concur on this having read the reason for the back paint many years
ago i.e. legal background for reg. plate.
Further when I stripped the paint from my air filter body I do not
recall there being any silver paint under the remaining black.
