First Ferrero Rocher, now Peugeot

PostPost by: davidcroft » Mon Feb 28, 2005 9:13 am

Being a deeply sad man who makes TV commercials for a living, I tend
to watch the ad breaks quite carefully...

At the start of the latest Peugeot 307 ad (called 'Shame') a Plus 2 -
seen from the back for about a second - gets covered up...supposedly
because the owner is ashamed of it as a new Pug drives past.

So first we get a Plus 2-driving couple getting kicked out of a party
for being tight with crap chocs, and now we're supposed to cover our
cars up from the embarrassment of not owning a french hatchback.

What kind of idiots put these blights on our culture on the box?

...Er, that'll be me, then.

Apologies to all...

Well at least you guy's got a Lotus on the box, well done for that even though it was only for a second.
(I'm quite sad too and I was wondering if it was a plus 2 on the Pug ad.)

Look at it this way: Peugeot claims to have the best car in the world with
the 307 There is no sense in compairing the "best car in the world" with
just another car, like a Lada or a Renault Megane. They have to compair it
with something serious, otherwise they wouldn't be making a statement. So it
is a compliment!
I haven't seen the ad, BTW.

David,
Thanks for posting this, I was beginning to wonder if I was seeing things, you appear to be the only other person in the entire universe who has seen it too, everyone I have asked said that I'd imagined it!

Cheers,
Pete

Here in the US they had a Nissan pickup truck out race an Esprit. Or
the Ford Thunderbird losing the race but winning the girl. And isn't
that what it's all about? Selling product with sex. So obviously
Lotus are the sexiest cars to compare with.
