Boot Hinges

Lotus Nuts -
I suspect that the boot hinge recesses are at a slight angle to the body
because the body curves slightly down toward the outside. If the hinges
just sat on the surface, the hinge pins would be pointing slightly away from
each other at a slight angle - so when you went to open the boot, it would
put a some stress on them as the boot lid tried to open straight up. Hinge
pins have to be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the plane of
opening of the boot or door.
Voila!
