Dear all

Just taking a break from putting a five speeder in the plus 2,and one thing is puzzling me- in the service sheets it says for this upgrade new manifolds are reqd.

Is this so?

Do the five speed manifolds have a greater clearance under the gearbox?

Thanks in advance

John,

Having gone from the Lotus 4 speed to the Lotus 5 speed to the Sierra 5 speed, with the same manifold & exhaust pipe, I can confirm that you don't need a new manifold or exhaust pipe. You may find it necessary to "contour" the exhaust pipe underneath the gearbox to maximise ground clearance/ clear gearbox bottom. A good exhaust shop can do this on car in 10 minutes with an acetylene torch and levers/jacks. If you are going to retain the old gearbox for future use, as I have done, it may be worth fitting a new exhaust pipe to save the "customised" old one in case you want to put the other gearbox back at a later stage for any reason.

I did trim some superflous aluminium from the bottom of the Sierra gearbox though, there's a sort of a square pad which is in the way of the exhaust pipe.
