The Lotus "Gremlin" has struck again.I filled up with petrol ,a full load ,and the needle went off the scale of the petrol gauge,further than usual .I have done about 60 miles and the neddle has not moved?I have checked the voltage regulator output, 8volts at the gauge what should I expect to get ? I have thumped the petrol tank near the sender,incase it`s stuck.The needle is still over the full mark.Any ideas ?

If it`s the petrol I`m open to offers for the whereabouts of the service station!!

You should get 10v or thereabouts at the fuel guage, check for HR connections to the feed

i'm in the process of making up a batch of solid state volt reg replacements at the moment

I would strongly suspect the sender being stuck or faulty.

I assume the gauge goes back to zero when you switch off or pull the
wire off it?

20 to 200 ohms is what you need to know,
If you have a meter.check the resistance from the sender to earth 200 ohms is empty,20 ohms is full.

It would suggest to me that:-

1. the problem is the sender .........

2. the sender has stuck in the up (full) position

3. the sender is shorting internally. In which case you need a new one.

You are supposed to get 10v out of the v.reg,if it's putting out 12v the "neddle" may well stay in the full position for longer?
