Has anyone got +2 serial number 2229, 'cos if you have, I have your doors!

My car is 2192, but I have discovered the doors have both been engraved
2229!

Does anyone know if the quarterlight window seals are still available?

David;

While sanding down my +2 for a complete respray this summer, I found that 0292 was engraved in my rear deck lid. Problem was, I own 0293!

Frank at Sports Car World has the seals, if you look carefully you'll note that all are different. Frank has all 3 of them.

Theay are 'all' like that. the bodies were numbered, apparently to keep them as a set, but they did not match the chassis number. look in the hood[bonnet] apeture, there should be a body number there also forward of the british driver

Hi Dave(s),

The light pods, bonnet lid and doors on my +2 are the same but a
different number than the body and chassis. I'm the second owner and
I've talked to the original owner several times. Apparently, this is the
way it rolled off the assembly line. I would suspect this was rather
common. So it begs the question: How accurate are the production numbers
if many of the cars had two or more serial numbers?

Happy Holidays,

Dave S.

69' +2

77' Esprit

I wonder if the panels were done in per unit batches then later have
bits swapped back and forth for better fit or whether they just got
stacked wrong on the production line....

A number of vintage Brit cars, with steel bodies, tended to have
selected fit panels and the modern reproductions aren't exactly a
perfect fit to an individual car Just the ar the pane; was patterned
from ;)

Cheers,
Scott

Behind my glove box I found the correct serial number written on masking
tape, which was reassuring as my car does not (yet) have an VIN plate, so
the serial number could have been anything!

Still the "glove box number" corresponds to the number in the log book (but
not the doors!)

Yes you are correct there are three different seals. Thanks for the contact;
Unfortunately wrong continent! Any one know a UK supplier?

Thanks in advance.

David

Just read youre e-mail about the door number's. I was once told by a old BL dealer that when the bodies were assembled, doors were fitted to test the "trueness" of the shell. For some unknown reason the doors were then removed - placed back on the rack then the interior was fitted and doors placed back on the vehicle. I don't know how true this is but it sound's plausable enough having heared what other crazy things went on within the company. Hope this help's
