Paul,
I'm afraid I don't know what happened to the car, but I looked at the
Crombac website and was intrigued... you can just see the steering wheel
on the right hand side as is the driver's mirror. However the wipers are
parked to the left.
Is this a hybrid of some sort?

That is just how my S4 is. RHD with wipers parked to the left. Typical
Lotus they just fitted what they had in stock at the time

Just checked out the web site as well. You missed the obvious one! The
whole engine bay is the wrong way round! Looks like they mirrored the
photos.

The car is definitely left hand drive (see p162 of the Classic and Sportscar
Nov 1995 feature). It looks like the pics were printed the wrong way round
as the engine bay pic is wrong too.

I know for a fact that there were Jim Clark edition Esprits. They
were green with a tan interior. The seat backs had the words "Jim
Clark" edition (or something similar)tooled into the seat material.
There were about 25 or 50 cars in the edition; I can't remenber
which. I've never heard of a "Jim Clark edition" Elan however.

I agree with Gary....never heard of "JC edition"
Elans. This particular car is unique in that it was
Jimmys personal "office car". Does anyone know if it
sold? And, if so, how much. I probably would just
about hock the house to get a chance at that car.
Man, what a piece of history. Just finished opening
Christmas presents.........got the new Eoin Young book
on Jimmy. Great book with many pics I had not seen
before.

The only Elan I've heard of previously owned by Jim Clark is now owned by the famous French motor racing journalist Jaby Crombac (sorry if I've got the spelling wrong). I don't remember any mention of non-standard trim etc.

That is what started this thread....Crombac apparently
auctioned off JC's Elan on the 13th of December. Dont
know if is told and if so, for how much. The Elan was
a pretty standard S-3 FHC. Just a huge piece of
history for us Clark heads.

Well done Paul, my Elan is just 100 newer than the one recently sold. Does that mean I now have to review my insurred value ?
It sounds like heaps of Kiwi Dollars.

Great job guys!!! I can now sleep soundly knowing
that the car sold for what it may have been worth. I
will not now worry about the car sitting in some dark
warehouse, unwanted. Calling for me to mortgage my
home, sell my dog, divorce my wife, and fly off to the
land of rude people on a mission to locate and
preserve a piece of history.

Hi,
The Jim Clark's Elan sold for 55 000 euro (less commission I think) or ?33
000 or US $ 73 300. This highly collectible car was known in France to be in
perfect condition and fine runing order, used frequently by Mr Crombac
himself until now.
Best wishes.
