Hi all,
Just started work on my S2 engine and did a compression test.

1 = 170 psi
2 = 120
3 = 165
4 = 108 !!

So I've taken the cam cover off and found that the DPO had mixed up the
inlet and exhaust sprockets up! haven't pulled the head yet - what should I
expect damage wise? also listers have said they have had their cams 're
profiled' silly question but I cant see how you can increase lift / dwell,
as you can only remove metal - what am i missing??

TIA,
Jo.

This just showed up in my inbox. Maybe somebodies clock is not set right,
in either case my S2 had close to the same numbers. I was loosing
vacuum. Suggest putting a gauge on the manifold to confirm. Then mine
started missing badly under acceleration. Pulled the head and found burnt
valves. Easily repaired for a few hundred dollars by a good shop. If you
are in the Houston TX area try Motor Reco, 713-659-3891

If you really sent this in February, did you get it fixed?

What kind of lame virus sends old messages and don't attach some kind of
file? Guess I should of searched the archives to be sure.

btw Speaking of rebuilt cylinder heads, I hope to be putting mine back on
tomorrow if I get a few other things done first. Here's hoping.

Hmmm, I searched the archives and did not find a starting message with
subject "Ouch!!", but I did find that Mr. Lewthwaite has posted before
with ***@***.*** his return address, and also with his
computer roughly 8 months out of sync with the real time. It appears
that in fact he "replied" to Tim Dafforn's message this morning about S4
carbs, partly changed the subject and removed all the original content.
If you have a mailreader that "threads" messages, you'll see the Ouch!!
message directly below Tim's. Not a virus, panic over.

I've never been able to tell the difference either (if there is any)

can you increase lift / dwell,
as you can only remove metal -

removing metal at the base of the cam effectively increases the lift(but you have to increase the thickness of shims to take up this extra clearance)

There is one tooth difference in timing mark location. If you "degree" the cams in to the exact TDC of the engine, they could be used interchangeably.
