Lotus Elan

Vacuum pod spring

PostPost by: mark030358 » Wed Nov 10, 2004 10:07 pm

Hi there,
Just putting vacuum pods back on my elan sprint but have a slight
problem I hope someone could help with. I need to know which of the
two holes in the headlamp assembly the spring os connected to. There
is an upper one near the micro switch and a lower one. Question is
which one?
thanks

Mark, while I have no answer for you, I do have a question for the
group on your topic.

Are the springs (the big clothes pin ones, not the microswitch ones)
really necessary? I have a non-failsafe version and have had no
problems without the springs. Driven my Elan at the roaring speed
of 85 MPH. The springs purpose seems to be to hold the light pod
down. Why? We have had gravity for quite some time now and mine
have never bounced up and down.

Inquiring minds need to know,

Should keep it from rattling around and breaking filaments if nothing
else.

Hi,

Don't know if anyone responded. Mine only have one hole (and no
microswitches - thanks to the PO), and it is about an inch from the end.
Probably wont help, but that is all I can say.
