I've had my head apart for a couple of things and now I'm not 100%
sure which cam is which. They look to be very similar and I'm
wondering if stock cams are indeed indentical. If not, any tips on
which is which? Thanks, Bruce Knoer

The cams are ( or should be) identical and interchangeable. However
it is good idea to keep the cams and the followers in the same
locations as the individual followers and cam lobes wear to match
each other and their location in the head. If you have lost track of
which cam is which and which follower was matched to each cam lobe
then you can reassemble in any way but keep an eye out for excessive
follower or cam lobe wear.

I normally etch on the front face of the cam where the sprocket fits
whether it is inlet or exhaust and put the folowers in marked plastic
bags when removing them from the head so I can be sure they go back
in the same place

Bruce,

The cams are the same but the sprockets are different.

Thanks Rohan & Tim

I was very neat about keeping all the bits in order, just not
making it perfectly clear which cam was which. I thought I placed
them in they're appropiate side of the cam cover but my memory is
failing.
While one of my sprokets had EX etched on it's face, now I'm
wondering which of the three locating hole aligns with the peg. I'm
guessing it's the center one. Any thoughts guys? Bruce

Bruce, The other two holes in the sprocket are for the pushrod cam location. It is the center hole you will use. I think you would also find that the other holes, if you tried to use them are on a slightly different radius from the center of the cam.

I agree w/ Rohan and Tim that the important thing to match is the tappet toits respective cam lobe.
