What they are saying is that the wiper that points towards the outside of
the car when parked leaves a section of that sides upper croner of the
windshield unswept, where the other wipers tip cover most of the upper
corner of it's side. So if the wipers park opposite the driver then the
drivers side gets a bit more clear windshield. The area is the same it's
just where on the windshield it is.

It looks like you would have to move the wiper blades 180 degrees also as
part of the switch. You're right, John, the swept area won't change, but
the driver's side would be swept more fully.

Yeah I know, I was talking complete bollox because it could damage the
internals.
The theory is still sound though as a backwards/forwards swap would do the
trick AFTER you have repositioned wipers at their stop position.
However lets stop discussion of my technique since it is complete crap!

If you reverse the polarity going to the motor it will certainly rotate in
the opposite direction, however since the rotary movement is converted to a
linear action via the eccentric and connecting rod, the end result will be
backwards and forwards instead of the original forwards and backwards.
Parking will still be in more or less the same place, but, the parking
switch and the motor thrust bearing is designed for one operating in the
original direction only.

If the wipers sweep a 180 degree arc, and are positioned so they are
centered on the car, you would be correct, as they would leave a
similar uncleaned arc at each top corner.
However, the wipers actually sweep a much smaller arc. Therefore, if
the arm parks on the left, the sweep to the right will end with the
right arm roughly parallel to the windshield frame (which is why
there usually is a bend in the arm)leaving a small unswept area. The
laft side will have a larger unswept area because the end of the left
wiper just about reaches the left bottom edge of the glass.
Take a look at any car that does not have articulated arms and you
will see what I mean.
