spax problems

Gary posted a diagram of bulkhead a while ago, although it is LHD except for the speedo cable and the steering column I think it is basically the same as a RHD.

Hi Roger.
Nice pic. something to aspire to, I'm getting there, the picture clearly showes all the exits for all the cables pipes etc.
makes all the differance having the experience ones help us not so experienced.I've got one bracket left its 6"x4" tringle, flat, with a hole in each corner, dose it hold the end of the hand brake to the inside of the front footwell?.

thanks again,

Gerald.

Hi Gerald,
I,m afraid I don't know what your flat triangular bracket is for. There is no bracket at the bottom end of the handbrake lever it is simply located by the grommet through the bulkhead although I believe some folks have made one up as the one self tapper that normally secures it does seem a bit under engineered. The boot lock support bracket is roughly the size you describe but is more T shaped than triangular and is not flat either. Post up a picture of your bracket - I,m sure someone will be able to identify it.

Regards,
Roger

I think you might be referring to the servo support bracket that fits under the wing on the left inner side, the mounting bolts for the servo pass through it holding the servo to the fiberglass. (see pic)

Could be a later fitting by Lotus as my 72 Sprint has it and my 72 Europa Special also had it, both were fitted with Girling MK2B servos as standard.

Hi all,
that is the last of all the brackets, they have all got a home now. I've been putting in the wireing loom in and found 99 0/0 just 3 not sure off
the WSM dosen't show where the reversing light switch is, and I couldn't find it on the gearbox. next dose the S4 have court lights( as WSM shows ) but where do they fit? lastly, do all S4 have front wing indicators?.
For all the help in the past thanks all.

Gerald.

My reversing switch is a hand operated toggle on the dashboard.

Quite useful for scaring off idiots who tailgate too close.

The reverse light switch is on the top of the gearbox just forward of the inspection plate (that is the top alloy cover) and is screwed downwards, if the engine/gearbox is in the car you might just be able to see the switch looking from the front behind the bellhouseing. The switch should have two wires coming from it.
I am not sure about the courtesy lights on a drop head, I think it only has the one on the dashboard, the fixed head has them on the rear quarter panels as well as the dash.
I don't think the domestic (UK) S4 has the front side markers unless it is an SE model but I stand to be corrected there.

According to Brian Buckland they were fitted on SE models and all S4 cars. My car has them.

That's correct.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the help, theres a hole on top of the gearbox just in front of the plate, so it looks like I will have to add it to the list of things gone walk-about. I might put a courtesy light in boot as wires are there. Wing indicators also gone walk-about as well.
Again, appreciate all the help, will start a new subject next time.

Best regards,

Gerald.

Mine never had a reversing switch on the gearbox, so it is possible that many others left the factory without that switch.
