Hi,
Does anyone know the best way to have a handbreak you can reach with full harness belts on?
Cheers Colin

Could you make an extension for the handbrake mechanism?

Most Elan racers I know back off the handbrake adjustment so the handbrake pads are well clear of the disc. As a result, the handbrake doesn’t work - therefore no need to reach it with a harness on.

Leave it in gear if on a slope…

What do you wish to use it for?
The FIA require standard rear caliper with the handbrake mechanism in place , with pads, rods and swivel. Cable?? , depends on who you listen to, but I've never heard anyone say the umbrella was required for the HTP.
Despite that, some have it ( as I do), but I'm not really sure why, it's only ballast. Mine is road registered and so should really have it,but..........

Hi,
The only reason I need the handbreak is for starts on a hill at the startline!
Racing SMRC mostly at Knockhill
Could I have a hydraulic handbreak somewhere I can reach it intigrated to the origonal system? And leave the dash mounted one and cable in place?
Cheers Colin

Presumably there's a light system or a 5 second board, if you can't heel and toe it, a hold on the clutch for a couple of seconds seems in order???

Electric handbrake conversions are available for disabled drivers, so perhaps something like this could be made to work https://www.steeringdevelopments.co.uk/ ... -handbrake

I thought you weren't supposed to use the hand/parking/emergency brake on a car after bringing the car back to the pits as it would cause the disc to distort? We use a "ye olde wooden block" on our Alfa race cars...
