Not sure if anyone else watched the Silverstone Classic this past weekend. I watched the livestream and while I usually very much enjoy watching the Classic, as an Elan fan the classic GT race was rather painful to watch

The Bourne Body S1 of Penson Motorsport (driven by Lee Penson) qualified 11th out of 14 in class but did not start in the race.

Shortly after the race began (with a full field of 61 cars I may add), the 26R driven by Steve Jones spun and got the front end ripped completely off by a 911 that was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Paul Tooms 26R also suffered damage on the first lap and was unable to complete the race.

The greatest tragedy of the day though in my opinion came with 8 minutes left in the race when the Andy Willis 26R rolled coming out of Becketts. I am still baffled as to how this happened - the car just rolled right over on the pavement. Thankfully however, the cage held, the driver was okay, and the car landed right side up and was actually able to be driven off the track out of harms way.

Andrew Haddon in his Elan enjoyed success however, finishing 10th overall and 2nd in class, and setting 6 of the 7 fastest laps in class. The 26R driven by Goncalo Gomes and James Claridge also ran well, finishing 17th overall and 3rd in class.

All in all too many Elans and drivers to acknowledge (10 different Elans started I believe) but a good race by all. As for the accidents, as they say, that's racing.

mmmmm..... Elan carnage unfortunately. You do have to stay out of the way of those Porkers. Back to the garage for some body work, most of it will buff out luckily

cheers
