Video of Croft

I know some like watching these vids, but if you find them boring don't bother!

This is from a recent race at Croft. I had to start from the back of the grid in an Elan S1. Since there are about 38 cars ahead of me, there's plenty of '60 and '70 era sports cars to see. It also demonstrates just how good an Elan is as all cars are allowed pretty much the same performance mods - you can change springs, dampers and anti roll bars, use any 60 profile road legal tyre (70's cars can use 50 profile tyres) and change cams, pistons and exhaust. Carbs have to be original as does engine bore and stroke.

The Elan just romps past almost everything - the Morgan Plus 8 gets it as it is allowed a limited slip diff (original equip) and we're not.

Oh, and I had a moment when oil from my leaking diff ran onto the rear tyres - I would have ended up 5th or 6th I think if the race hadn't been curtailed by a safety car due to a stranded Sunbeam Tiger.

This is superb and very inspiring. I am in the process of building up my experience and courage by going to track days. At the same time developing the car (67 elan DHC ) but still keeping it road legal.

Keep posting these videos please.

Always enjoy watching you overtaking in gaps that don't seem to exist

Fabulous driving! I must admit I'm a bit more gun shy on the track in a fiberglass car as a shunt is very expensive. You clearly aren't concerned about that

Superb but crying out for an LSD I would think on a wet track, how many of the other vehicles are allowed to have them? If its just the Morgan then he probably has enough handicaps in the wet to take away any advantage.

It shows just how good the suspension is that it barely broke traction but a couple of times.

What was the switch to the right of the gear lever that you flipped early on?

Just watched it again and the 2 videos that followed, was it a different driver at Silverstone to the one at Spa?

Hi Chancer - Switch was for the headlights.

I'm not sure what the other videos you watched are, but if it was moneyintonoise then that would be same driver. Different cars, different setups/tyres and sometimes with problems (such as needing to be held in gear). Also small changes seem to make a big difference to how car handles.

LSD would be nice.

Great video Paul and interesting to watch the differences between the S4 Seven , Europa and your Elan. I was surprised you went past the Seven so easily but I guess it depends on its development versus your Elan. A friend of mine has a well developed S4 Seven with a similar engine to my Elan and he runs away from me due to the lighter weight, wider track and better exhaust he can fit. He is also a better driver :)

He also has a Europa which my Elan is more competitive with as weight is similar but he still gets a little more HP due to the better exhaust and the wider track and mid engine helps the handling compared to the Elan especially on fast sweeping corner tracks like Philip Island

cheers
