Two Different Racing Venues

Two very very different venues for racing my Elan.

June at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.....

http://youtu.be/xYJhLOHkQvs

Gridded 6th. Finished 3rd.

July at Schenley Park Pittsburgh PA.....First and Last Laps.

http://youtu.be/z2ffH-nBsf0

Gridded 12th because of just one lap in qualifying. Finished 4th on this tricky street circuit. No guard rails or catch fence here just curbs, stone walls, trees and light poles....Old School Street Racing.

Thanks for posting the videos. I enjoyed both of them. The stone walls, curbs, and trees along the Pittsburgh course would scare me.

Hi lance,
Great video.
Love the street circuit. I have seen quite a few videos of that circuit.
The ps1800 at Indy seemed quick.

Lance, you should put "Lotus Elan" in your video titles so that more people (like me) can find them when they do youtube searches for their favourite car :)

One more.......this time the beautiful natural terrain road course at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama.

I will add Lotus Elan to the Youtube Titles.....thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for posting the PVGP Photos. The paddock at Schenley Park is such a wonderful place. Away from the track noise with the cars all displayed along the cul-d-sac.

Sorry we missed each other, visits with fellow Elan owners are always welcome.

Regarding the Barber race at 5.40. The Europa (T47 spec) slowed abruptly and all the other cars just backed off. At first I thought that a yellow flag was out but since so flag was in sight I just motored by everyone. The red Elan re-passed me 3 laps later.

Nice to hear from you Dave,

Yes. 26-S2-29. Now owned by Robert Bodin form Minnesota.

It has been active on both the East and West Coasts over the past 20 years with several owner/drivers.

Always well prepared and quick.

Here we are sidie-by-side at Lime Rock Park last September.....

Clark,
Thanks for all of the great video. I have not made it to the Pittsburgh races yet and I muttered "holy crap" to myself quite a few times watching your laps there. Now I understand why Dick Fryberger's Elite body shell was as good as written off after a shunt there several years ago. Hopefully I'll see you at LRP in a few weeks.

The LOG was held in Pittsburgh in 1985, in conjunction with the PVGP. On race morning, we were to have 3 parade laps of the circuit. Rather foolishly, they sent us out without a pace car - you can imagine what ensued. :). They got everyone stopped after a lap and a half, it was great fun.

The rock walls, curbs and straw bale clad light poles certainly make you assess your capabilities. I saw an Elite hit the bank some years ago , not pretty. I don't know if was the same car that Russ referred to.

Mike,
Yellow with a green stripe that flared out across the nose? If so, that was Dick Fryberger. He is very skilled and competitive but got put off the road by another driver. It took a long time but his Elite was put back together and returned to the fray.
