Just weighed my car whilst setting up the corner weights and it only weighs 550 Kgs. SI homologated weights are 580kgs that means a massive 30kg of added weight required. I only have the homolgation papers for S1 road cars are there lower weights for the race cars?

regards

Andy

Hi Andy ...mine is 1480 or so empty and with a race battery magnesium bell housing a set of real mag wheels , light body single wiper , non pop up head lights alloy diff cover etc etc and a 1/2 mk 1 dash .I changed it to a full dash as I can't compete any more. .the advantage of adding weight as opposed to adding lightness is you can add the pounds where it can improve handling or enjoy that pizza and beer diet The homologation papers ..are they like zig zags?.. ...ed

580kg is the homologated weight for an FIA Elan GTS/10, but,
30kg are just enough for a second seat, trip master's a lamp, a second coil& fuel pump and wiring, etc...
If driving solo, think about changing ally or mag diff casing with original cast iron, this is where the need is first... Then, think about low.
With a "superlight" body from TTR, we achieve quite easily a 540kg GTS/10 Elan, and put the weight back after, thinking low, reliable AND safety.
This to say that with this homologated weight, the Elan still has a chance to keep its avantage on handling, depending on driver style. With a steel body, such quest would cost a fortune, speaking both time & money...

Andy, the Homologation papers you sent me do have alloy tailshaft housing and clutch housing, shown as optional extras dated 11 July (Jiullet) 1964. I hope you have not started dismantling!
