2012 Hillclimb/Sprint MSA reg's

I'm hopefully going to get the time to do a few climbs again this year in the South West (England). Two years ago my road going S3 Coupe fitted into class A2 (1400cc-1800cc) but having looked at the blue book things seem to have changed!!
My car has the tall block conversion which is just under the 1800 mark but it looks as though the block must be of the original type fitted (or specified option)? to get into that class. The original chassis spec may well cause problems for Spyder users as well.
I understand that because the Spyder Chassis was the only available option for a time it has been allowed but would this apply to the block as the original blocks are like hens teeth and the 711 block is a obvious alternative?
Being the 50th birthday of the Elan I'm hoping to see a few out sprinting and climbing this year and I know of four of us who will be entering a number of events in the S.W. A few more and we can have our own bit of fun.

Anyone else hillclimbing/Sprinting this year in an Elan?

Hi,
Can't help with the MSA class regs, but I do sprint and hillclimb in the Midlands, mainly Curborough, assuming I sort out my gearbox issue (see bullit box thread ). Our championship runs a road going historic class, which is a bit of a free for all for pre 1976 cars with original glass and list 1a tyres.
I only saw one other elan racing last year so I often wonder where everyone is, there must be a lot more hillclimb and sprint elans out there somewhere.

Regards
Martin.

Thanks Martin,

Your reply explains a few things to me! I was under the impression that the classes were the same everywhere.

I bought my Elan about three years ago from a chap who raced in a historic class in the midlands and I am pretty sure Curborough was one of his regular haunts. I guess that it is very difficult to match cars into classes and by the look of the previous owners trophy cabinet the Elans fair well in the pre 76 class.

I'm hopefully going to go to the "Introduction to Sprinting" at Curborough this year so may see you there.

Are the Midland events always full or can you just enter two or three? I might need to put some list 1a tyres on my spare set of wheels though!

Good luck with your gearbox (I will ask an expert) and if I manage to use one of our events as a kind of Elan celebration I will let you know.

Regards,

Jon

I am hoping to be on the hills later this year in mine (although it's still a pile of bits!).

I'll be running in the historic class of the Welsh Championship - a lot of championships have different regulations which is a nightmare for working scores / points out!

Regards

Wyn

The Paul Matty Championship [1] is still going strong, so a phone call to Bromsgrove should turn up names of competitors local to you, and ideas on the regulations I'd have thought.

I've done it in Excel and Mk 6, but not Elan, and that was a while ago too :-((
