FIA agreed homologated parts for Lotus Elan pre 65

I have just been talking to the MSA homologation representative regarding various items on Lotus Elans and the following will be of interest to anyone with a FIA spec car.
It has now been agreed at the FIA that the following suspension is legal for Lotus Elans, the rear A frames may be rose jointed at the inner mountings and the front upper wisbones may also be rose jointed at the inner mountings.
This will be written into the new Appendix K regs.

It had also been noted that the Quaife straight cut gear sets that have been in use for some time have been found to not be legal as they have the wrong number of teeth. I am told that Quaife may be making sets with the correct number of teeth but I have not verified this.

Regards

Andy

Quaife have told me that they do not think they will be making any different gear sets and told me to speak to Tony Thompson, so I do not know where replacement gear sets will be availalbe from in the future.

Its taken 2 years for the agreement on suspension and now the FIA do not like the gear kits. I wonder if the FIA know how many are running dog boxes.

Andy, I do not understand why FIA is making historic racing so difficult. I do see their need to control the tech-spec of the cars in order to keep it "old and genuine", but counting the number of teeth in a gearbox is beyond me! All they do is creating cheaters, because a lot of people will continue running quaiff gears. I have yet to see a gearbox, or an engine , be opened up by officials, so this does not make sence to me at all. Furthermore, I see that each and every country has its own interpretation of the rules, - due to the nature of the rules and the translation from French...- so basically, this is a mess....! :?
If quaiff will not make new gears, I do believe that TT will take some action. My experience is that he is very awake for these changes in the rules, and tend to come up with an answer....!

Doesn't FIA stand for Ferrari International Assistance? It seems so in F1 - maybe a 26R knocked off an old Ferrari.
I hope the regs translate to tarmac rallying - I could use more easily adjustable suspension.

MSA/FIA Homolgation for Rally Car Lotus Elan Plus 2 130/5 (1974)

Does anyone have any information indicating that such a car has been homologated?
If so please contact me urgently. Thank you

I'll confirm that the FIA addition to homologation form 127 / Elan pre -65, numbererd 2/ ET ( - "evolution" ) , is now available approving fully adjustable front and rear suspension wishbones. It is referred to as "heavy duty suspension"..... :)
As it is an "evolution", it would mean you have to adopt all the items, not only some. This, again I guess, will mean Girling AR front calippers , peg drive hubs and the wishbones with partnumbers front 26.C.702A, and rear 26.D.013A and 014 A respectively....
The big question is of course ; - how much will I improve my laptimes....... :D

Hi Dag,

Regarding which bits to fit, let's recall what Colin said: "Rules are for the interpretation of wise men, and the obedience of fools".

I'll see what I can get away with.

BTW, are these changes downloadable from an official website? I like to wave sheaves of paper at scrutineers.

PS I have acqired a few more toys in recent years - I'll add them to my signature...
