High lift low / duration camshafts

The cam end is drilled and tapped for a longer sprocket bolt. The longer bolt runs past the first bearing and holds this section of the cast iron cam in compression so it is stronger and less likely to fail in bending from the sprocket side loads. This is especially important for the exhaust cam which usually breaks as it has higher chain tension loads.

The longer sprocket bolt requires a hole down the centre and and a radial hole and radial groove to feed oil from the first cam bearing down the cam shaft to the other bearings

I have used Penrite Running In oil for the last few years for the initial break in of my engines with good success. it has the right formulation to engine good bed n of rings and cams. i change it after the first 2 to 3 hours of running to Redline 20/50 synthetic..

Hi Rohan

Is the Redline 20/50 still your preferred oil weight after run in. I see on Redline's site that they offer a product 50WT Race Oil as a 15/W50?

Cheers

Yes I use the 20W/50 as it contains detergents and has a longer life than the 50 weight racing oil that has no detergents and thus slightly better lubricating capacity but really should be changed after each race meeting. At about $180 a change I cant afford to do it that frequently
