1966 Elan S3, SE DHC for sale

PostPost by: cdbrowne » Tue Jul 30, 2013 12:58 am

Hello,
I've been a member of Lotuselan.net for a couple of years now and an Elan owner for over 5. I've never had a need to post but I do read the various forums several times a week and have gathered a wealth of information from them (and quite a few chuckles!).
That said I?m putting my Elan up for sale due to a family situation and advertising it on Lotuselan.net before placing it in any other classifieds. The car has not been ?customized? and as I?ve worked on the car I?ve tried to use ?NOS? or other compatible parts from Dave Bean or R D Enterprises. The car has a Lotus galvanized chassis and everything works! Some of the work that I?ve had done over the past 3-4 years:
? New high-performance starter, New generator, Voltage Regulator, Starter Solenoid, Ignition Switch
? New Pertronics ?flame-thrower? coil, New Ignition wires, Plugs, New Distributor
? Battery less than a year old
? New Clutch Master and Slave cylinders and braided line
? New Brake master cylinder
? New Ceramic Coated Headers
? New freeze out plugs
? Radiator cleaned, boiled out, any tubes/cracks soldered.
? Heavy duty radiator brackets fabricated
? New air horn
? New springs
? Powder Coated Cam Cover (wrinkle red)
? Original wheels refurbished & painted (
? Original trim rings cleaned and polished
? 4 New Vredestein tires (less than 500 miles on tires) on the car now
? 4 Panasport wheels (all refurbished in 2010) with Dunlop SP 41 mounted
? New custom exhaust
? New trunk hinges
? New license plate lights
? New inside rear view mirror
? New front (driver & passenger side) carpets
? New passenger seat bar (attachment to the body) fabricated
? Boot detailed; new carpet, new boot boards, new fuel filler pipe
? Bonnet, front & rear bumpers repainted
? Conv. top ?like new.?
? New ?Robbins? bonnet cover (needs to be fitted)
? Two car covers
There is more & I have receipts/invoices for all the work/parts done to the car. Numerous ?First in Class? awards and 2nd in Class at 2010 ?Sunday in the Park? Lime Rock Park Historic weekend.
Additionally, I have some memorabilia I?ll include in the sale, i.e. Original Lotus Dealer lighted sign that works (original fluorescent bubs intact!), several period magazines with ?66 S3/SE road tests, e.g. Sports Car Graphic, Lotus dealer literature and so on. Original photo of Colin Chapman & Jimmie Clark from Watkins Glenn GP may be included. Asking $34,900.00. The car is located in Southern Connecticut (East Coast USA). Additional photos will be provided on request. Please PM me with questions (I am only able to respond in the evening due to employment circumstances).

Thought it was my lucky day - just what I am looking for.
Then I read down to the $ price, then looked at the picture - LHD, both wrong for me, I'm in the UK :(

Beautiful car though - good luck with the sale.

Thanks - hope to find the right one soon.

$ price is fine for such a well maintained car, I'd buy it - it was the dollar sign that was the problem.

Nice S3 for sure. I really liked my S3 because the top worked great in the rain unlike my S2. Call Ray and get a proper shift knob to complete that nice interior.

Thanks Jeff... I believe the shift knob is the original and I didn't want to undo the intent of the design by adding weight with a heavy wooden shift knob... :D Also, I have Ray on speed dial!

I've had several requests for additional interior photos which I have posted below. To the best of my knowledge the seats are original and in very good condition as well as seat belts and dash (minor cracks in the dash which we all have at this age). New custom carpet on driver & passenger side floors. Any questions or if I can provide further info please reply or PM me.
Regards,
Charle

Dropping price to $30,900 and including Lotus Factory Workshop Manual, 3 Ear Knock-On Tool, Torgue wrench and socket along with other bits in initial post.
The car has been accepted in Lime Rock's Sundy in the Park concours so weather permitting we'll be there.
