Chrome plating in the UK

PostPost by: jeff jackson » Fri Sep 02, 2011 3:36 pm

Hi All,
I have searched the archives, and I saw mentioned, Hampshire plating and Derby Plating.
I live on the South Coast, but can anyone recommend a quality chrome platers?
Otherwise I will go with one of the two mentioned.
Need to have the Bumpers re-chromed.
Kind regards

I assume you mean the above outfit...they did my door frames and even un-plated my camcover without any problem.

Hi Jeff,

I have for many years always used a company called Standard Chrome Co based in Coventry. Their work is first class and i have won many concours awards with cars (not Lotus) which have had their chrome work plated by this company.

I know it is a fair distance from the south coast but it will be worth it. I live 200 miles away and still use it.

I do not have any connection with this company only glad to recommend it.

Best Regards, Baz

Hi Richard,
Yes the platers are the ones in Southampton.
You mentioned they did work for you, what was the quality like?

Also where did your vents go?

I had the chrome done on my +2 nine years ago by D.F King on Canvey Island - all the chrome plating on the car for less then ?400 - good value at the time.

There is no sign of flaking and all is still well.

Sorry, yes...when I said "without problem" should also have added that quality was excellent.

No doubt you've seen "Mike, you could also try Hampshire Electro Plating in Southampton, they did an excellent job on the front bumper of my Elan +2"

The vents weren't mine, but being "lost" is not a good recommendation, whereever "atthelimit" sent them! (I still don't believe they're chrome plated)

Hi,
I think there is also London Chroming company which are very high quality. I just got back my bumpers side lights and window frames from Derby chroming and they are absolutly perfect, I am very satisfied with the results the inside surface of all the objects have all also been painted to protect the chrome from rusting from the inside out.
