L block Engine mount bolts

PostPost by: Matt Elan » Sun Aug 12, 2012 2:52 pm

Just got my 'L' block back with new liners; so I decided thi sunday afternoon that I'll get it mounted onto the engine stand so I can start the rebuild; or at least wheel it around the garage! I thought that the various block bolts would be UNF/UNC but the problem is I can't find any bolts to fit into the engine mounts. Ah ha I thought I'll check in the parts book and decode the size from there. Engine block bolts are A026E 6078 and 112981ES so don't match up with the Lotus 'decoder'. Doh. but now I'm not so sure!

So does anyone know the size/thread type so I can get some from my local nuts and bolts specialist?
Thanks in advance......

I don't recall the size however they were standard UNC, maybe 1/4 x 20. I did have to run a tap down a couple of the holes to clean things out when I replaced my motor mounts earlier in the month.

Actually they are 5/16 unc but a 5/16 bsw will also work......ducking for cover

The bolts are 5/16 unc x 1 3/4 for the exhaust side through the 1 1/8 exhaust side spacers and the intake side is 5/16 unc x 5/8
You can probably get away with 3/4 but you will need to use a flat washer and a lock washer, even then you should check that the threads do not bottom out. I tried the 3/4 and they were close but I don't think you can just slap them in without checking all 4 of them.
