Yet another windscreen question

When I removed the windscreen frame from my S1 there was no rubber moulding between the screen frame and the body.
I believe later models had a T section moulding between the frame and body but did the early ones have this too?
I cant find any pictures that show the area well enough to tell

Hi Rod

You are a bit on you own on this topic as your car is quite early and there are not many folks that have Elan's that date back as far as your's does. I looked at some other photos of 26/0206 and it does not appear to have the T filler strip but it is missing the crash pad too so I wouldn't say that helps you much. the other early Elan that I have some photos of is 26/0269 and it MAY have it but the photo makes it difficult to say for certain. I have another of 26/0558 and it without a boubt has the strip, the door is open and you can see the termination of the end. Take a look at the first photo in this topic,

the photo may be of the first 1500 Elan produced. upload the attachment and look at it at 2 or 3 times normal viewing. It does not appear to be using the T strip.
26/0206 - a bit of the screen on the right side showing?

I will post some pictures shortly, the body is painted now so it looks quite nice but the interior is still bare
and its still off the chassis

From the early elan factory pic I really cant tell, and it looks like 206 doesnt have the rubber strip,
I have a picture I took of 997NUR alledgedly the first or second development elan and that has a rubber but its not a T section and anyway I dont know if the owner has changed it, its certainly been resprayed. So Im still not sure

And looking again at the early factory pic the door is different from mine, so they obviously changed that from the prototypes

You don't say if or who took off the screen frame, how many paint jobs that the body has had or any other details so I can only offer vague directions as to what it is and how it came. You are the one looking at it and that makes it tough for someone that does no0t own a S1 to offer any useful info for you to go by. There used to be several early owners on the forum but they may have lost interest as not a lot of talk was about what they owned and to read of the later models most of the time really didn't offer them much to stick around for. I have the opposing point of view that if you don't like reading about other stuff, write about what YOU like and maybe others will chime in with like or similar postings.

p.s. - Once a restoration is done the photos looks just like all of the others. It's the process, beginning and the re-assembly photos that are the most interesting. Once the car is finished and then one can look and do the comparison and see what it took to get it to the point of completion.

Well I took off the frame this time but the body has been at least 3 colours so I have no idea whether the screen frame came off before, When I took it off there was what looked like a fillet of body filler in the screen frame to body joint .
I should have taken some pictures at the time but its too late now

Here is an S1 ( late 63) with the T-molding in place. finish is original and car has been off the road since 1972 ( maybe 71)

Look at the bottom of the A pillar for a small aluminum bracket looking piece ( 90 degree) held on to windshield frame with pop rivets ( or the pop rivet holes)

if you look at the blue car ( 64 S1 you will see the edge of the bracket peeking out - purpose is obvious as well.

I would think you must be the same Rod Little that I bought a set of Elan wheels and other parts from about 4 years ago. We met up at Beaulieu autojumble for a hand over. I seem to recall you had some health issues at the time, so hope they are behind you. And good to see you are still Elan bound.

Thanks Gary and CABC26b Isaw an S2 at Goodwood yesterday as well so now I know all ai need to piut the screen surround back.
And No Leslie it wasnt me so there is another rod little, Im fine !!

Having looked at my old screen surround very carefully I can find no trace of the holes for the rivets or whatever was used to clamp the end of the filler strip so Im still a bit dubious but as that seems to be the only solution I will make up some little plates and rivet or maybe screw them on.

Gary where would you like some pictures of my s1 so far ? I took a few of the body this morning so can upload them wherever you like

That would be great. Start a NEW topic and you can add to it as the restoration progresses. Book mark the page and it makes it easier to go back to. You could put them in Elan but it sees a lot of posts and in two weeks time it will be lost off the front page. Its nice to see an early Elan, not many get shown much of anywhere lately.
