S1, 1.5 or 2 RHD glove box

PostPost by: Tahoe » Tue Aug 28, 2012 6:09 pm

I need a pattern for a RHD glove box S1 or S2 (not early S1 fiberglass). LHD is available here in the states but not RHD in my search. Anyway if someone has dimensions I'd like to make one up for myself. Maybe a LHD box is the same just reversed. Even LHD dimensions will work and I can reverse them and test fit for clearance issues if their are any..

Can't help except that I believe they are available. You are talking the hardboard box aren't you?
I'm looking for the LHD S1 box or some kind soul to let me take a mold off of one! ( Do I hear laughter?)

Nomad,

The LHD drives are available but I couldn't find a supplier in the US that had RHD available. Special order yes, but before I do that, I figured it couldn't be too dificult to make my own and a pattern would be helpful. I was thinking of making it out of Aluminum but fiberboard would be nice. The fiberglass ones are available from Tony Thomson. At least he lists them in his price list. Do a Google search for Tony Thmson Racing Price List and you'll get a .pdf.

Thanks Russ, I'd heard that the RHD ones were available from Susan Miller but not the LHD. I'll check out Tony Thomson.
Aren't the hard board boxes available from RD?

Russ

I have one sitting in front of me, but it isn't easy to see how to describe/measure it without a lot of photos - its a complex shape, with 8 facets not including the (open) front. It could take some time to draw up, but if you really want the dimensions, I can do it. Let me know...

Only in LHD from RD but it can be ordered. By the way Tony Thomson probably only makes it in RHD, but it's worth asking them.

I'd really like the dimensions, but not if it's a lot of trouble. Could you photograph each side with a ruler next to it? The dimensions don't have to be perfect as long as I can have some overall dimensions I can make something work.

Thanks, but I think I'm finally there! Although looking at my photos, I'm no David Bailey...

This is a useful subject. I've got an original hardboard box that has certainly seen better days but is still in one usable piece, the problem I have is that the glove box door does not fit snugly, there is 1/4" play at the latch, and the box has a tendency to shift backwards after a few miles of start and stop driving, the braces that hold it up are also not snug. Anyone else have this problem?

Steve, send a picture, I've worked on a couple style doors and latches. Maybe I can help with your door fit.

I believe I've read somewhere that the fibreboard glovebox is a Triumph Hearld one.....

Sarto,

Hopefully these photos are alright. Please note that glove box door does not fit flush and and although the box itself is intact it is quite warped. It may be a problem with the lock rather than the box however, any advice would be great-

Thanks,

Steve

Looking at Google images it's not a match.
